Lorna's brief was a romantic scheme of Lilac, Lavender and White florals with a statement circular archway acting as a backdrop for the ceremony. Our florals featured; Roses, Lisianthus, Eryngium, Dianthus, Salvia complimented with Ruscus, Pittsiporum and Eucalyptus. Lorna also created all of her own wedding signage adding an extra personal touch to her day (@Serendipity.Love.Signs).

There's always this buzz when you do wedding flowers, a mix of adrenaline and excitement, hours and hours of work, staying up late the night before to finish buttonholes, to setting everything up on the day. You don't breathe out until you've seen your bride or groom and know they are happy. Everything has to be perfect and to be a part of such a huge day is a massive responsibility and one we don't take lightly. This is why from day one we like to get to know our couples and work closely through the entire process to make sure we deliver your dream florals on the day. Also anyone who knows us knows how much we love a chat not just about flowers but just generally so we are always on hand to help and guide you through the process.

If taken care of properly, dried flowers can last 1-3 years, giving you the perfect long term display for your home or workspace! Your dried blooms need to be situated in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight. Finally, dried fleurs are delicate so handle with care and ensure they are placed in an area where they won't get knocked or bashed to help prolong their life.

3 Tips for Healthy & Happy House Plants

It’s safe to say that house plants have become the ultimate accessory for homes everywhere, and they aren’t going away any time soon. As well as looking super cool, they also come with a vast range of health and well-being benefits such purifying air, relieving stress and reducing pollution. If like us you are obsessed with house plants, or are interested to start your collection, then check out our 3 top tips below to keep your plant babies happy.

           1. Lighting

Lighting is a crucial element that is often overlooked when considering where we place our plants. Different plants like different types of light, some enjoy direct sunlight, others prefer the shade some want the best of both worlds. Before placing your plant in its forever home – that’s right, plants don’t like to be moved around too much as they become accustomed to their new environment, check out your plant label or do a bit of research on its preferences and then consider the lighting in your home and where is best suited. This will make a huge difference to weather your plant thrives or dies.

          2. Water

Watering can seem like a tricky business, especially if you have never cared for house plants before. As a general rule of thumb, most house plants will require watering when their soil is dry to the touch – generally around every 4 days. Try to nominate 2 dedicated watering days that are a few days apart i.e. Sunday & Wednesday to get yourself into a watering routine and ensure your plants don’t get left thirsty.

For Cacti & succulents, this rule does not apply, as they retain water in their chunky foliage. They only need watering occasionally when the soil becomes dry, every couple of weeks or so but again check out the label/research for your specific plant variety.

When the temperature drops in the winter months, they grow more slowly so require watering less frequently. If you aren’t sure, touch the soil to see if it feels damp or dry.

          3. Drainage

The third and final piece of this plant puzzle is drainage, a lesser known but vital component to keeping your plant happy and healthy. Despite watering being great for your plant, over watering can cause problems such a mould and worst-case scenario kill your plant completely. The best way to avoid this is to ensure you have a plant pot with holes at the bottom; this allows any excess water to run out and allows air to flow to the roots. Don’t worry if your pot doesn’t have holes, you can either drill some in the base or try putting your plant in a plant pot with drainage holes that will fit inside your original pot. This will stop stagnant water building up and keep your plant healthy.

Top Tips on Caring for Roses

            Love roses? So do we!

All of our bouquets and fleurs come fully prepared and with follow up care instructions but the below tips are really useful to help you get the most out of of your roses.

            1. Trim those stems

Like us, roses love a drink…especially after a long and taxing day of travelling, being packed and purchased, their stems will be hard and dry. Trimming the stems is the first key step to prolonging their life (this rule pretty much applies to all fleurs). You need to take at least 3-5cm off the bottom of your stems. Always cut your stems on a diagonal angle, this increases the surface area and enables the roses to drink faster.

           2. Remember your Waterline

Be sure to remove any foliage on your stems that will fall below your waterline. When little bits of foliage fall into the water, it contaminates it with bacteria, which your roses will then drink. Be sure to change the water every 2-3 days to ensure your fleurs are always drinking the cleanest h20. This rule also applies to all fleurs.

           3. Remove Guard Petals

You will notice the outer petals of your rose sometimes look a bit brown/bruised, these are the guard petals and like bubblewrap, they protect the roses inner petals. These can be easily pulled off to reveal perfect pretty petals beneath.

To make your roses last longer, you’ll need to re-trim them by 1cm and refresh their vase water every few days. This helps your roses to absorb all the nutrients from the water to stay fresher for longer. This rule also applies to all fleurs.

See the leaves at the base of the flower head? They are there to support the petals, so don’t remove them!

             Where should Roses be kept?

To care for your roses properly, you should keep them in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Windowsills and warm, bright rooms like conservatories aren’t recommended for roses as they’re dehydrating, which will cause them to wilt.

Also keep your roses away from fresh fruit! It might sound random, but fruit releases natural gasses that make flowers fade faster.

1. A golf-ball sized bud will open up to three times its size.

The transformation of a Peony is extremely impressive. Don’t worry if your Peonies look small when you first get them, they will burst open in a day or two.

          2. Peonies symbolise good fortune and a happy marriage.

It is this symbolism (as well as their jaw dropping beauty) that makes them the go to fleur for any spring wedding.

          3. Here today and gone tomorrow.

Well from late April to mid-June that is. The brief season seems to be over no sooner than it has started so be sure to get them while you can!

          4. Peony plants can live for decades.

The gift that keeps on giving, with the right love and care why not add a Peony plant to your garden and start your own collection, there are many different varieties to choose from.

          5. Peonies can produce nectar, even once cut.

If your Peonies feel a little sticky, don’t worry. As they bloom, they produce nectar. It is not sure why but one thought is that it helps the petals slide over each other when opening. You can wipe it away with a damp cloth if it bothers you.

          6. Short but sweet.

Peonies will give you up to 5 days of beauty in a vase. To help them to last longer, keep in a cool room away from direct sunlight, along with re-trimming your stems and refreshing your vase water every few days.

Hi Everyone! We thought that it was about time we started to write some blog posts to share with you all.

The reality is, in light of the Covid-19 lockdown, we like many of you are now finding ourselves with a lot of spare time on our hands. We are missing working all hours in our studio creating all of your fabulous fleurs, but being able to slow down, take a step back and re-focus our energy on creating some new floral content for you, is something we are quite excited about.

We want this to be a positive and insightful place where you will find everything from Wedding Inspo to DIY tutorials. We also welcome any suggestions from you for posts that you would like to see.

Stay tuned for next week’s blog post, which will be all about our favourite wedding trends for 2020 and beyond.
